Preserve neurological function throughout your surgical procedure

What is Intraoperative Neurophysiological Monitoring (IONM)?

IONM is the observation of your nervous system during Surgery.

IONM is performed by an experienced intraoperative neurophysiologist using advanced technology.

Electrodes are placed over nerve and/or muscle areas and then connected to a nerve monitoring system. This system gently stimulates the nerves allowing for signals to be recorded and then interpreted by the neurophysiologist.

This continuous production of data allows for the surgeon to assess the feedback from the neurophysiologist and make decisions on how to further proceed while preserving the function of your nervous system.

IONM tests protect your neural function during your procedure.

Why is your doctor requesting it?

Your surgeon may request it for a variety of reasons, such as:

  • identifying and/or testing the functionality of neurological structures

  • finding the optimum position for your body during surgery

  • ensuring that you achieve the best possible results from your surgery

IONM has been used for years in many countries and is the gold standard of care in the USA.

Which surgeries benefit from IONM?

Surgical procedures that may benefit from IONM include:

  • spine

  • brain

  • orthopaedic

  • vascular

  • otorhinolaryngology

  • peripheral nerve

  • cardiovascular

  • pelvic surgeries

  • interventional radiology

  • general surgeries
